A Pair of Old Kutani ShiShi Decorated Porcelain Beakers

The porcelain of beaker form with flared mouth standing on circular recessed base.

Both finely painted in iron-red with gambolling shishi lions holding in their jaws tasselled ribbons, each wrapped and tied to contain the Tama (sacred Buddhist jewel).

Gilt highlights throughout and to each rim.

Kutani iron-red enamelled mark to bases.

A very nicely painted pair of beakers. Interesting and collectable.

Late Meiji - Taisho Period

Hairline crack & small chip to base to one beaker

Otherwise good

Measures 4" ( 10.0 cm ) & 3 7/8" ( 9.7 cm )
